Daily Show Makes A Good Point On Guns & I Explain Why I'm Switching Positions From Supporting Assault Rifles To Wanting To Ban Them

I should note before I start that I still believe I am right on the stuff I have explained on guns earlier in the flowing posts;

I Answer Daily Show Questions About Guns. Episode: America Responds To Another Mass Shooting

Gun Debate - Gun Free Zones: I Smash Larry Wilmore & The Left On Inconsistent Gun Debate Logic (While Explaining What's Going On)

GUN Files: Bugs Bunny, The Ridiculist & Joe Biden On The Gun Debate

One of the primary reasons for my switch has to do with my new understanding that the automatic rifle (assault rifle) is NOT the musket of the days of the Founding Fathers. It's the Apache Helicopter. The f-16 fighter jet. To put things in perspective... would the Founding Fathers have been able to beat the British with assault rifles and no planes, bombs or helicopters? Very unlikely. So times have changed so much that we can no longer compare our times to the past. In a revolution the revolutionaries would have lost before they begun. That's how big the Government of EVERY country is now.

{In Detail}: The reasons I support banning AR-15's or any assault type rifle that can fire bullets in a "tumbling" manner;

TREVOR REACTS TO THE ORLANDO SHOOTING - JUNE 13, 2016 - JAMES CARVILLE06/13/2016 After a mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando, FL, Trevor calls for stronger gun control in the U.S. (8:29)

Highlights;

The President starts with a factual argument;

The situation here would have been deaths no matter what. The key point to keep in mind is HOW MANY DEATHS would we have stopped if he didn't have access to an assault rifle. The answer is simple. Less. Why? because that's what history has shown us. That said, it's possible he would have just kept on killing even if he only had a handgun depending on how much ammo he had since no one in that club seemed to be armed. That's another problem which I will get to later.

Ultimately, easy of access to firearms by the mentally deranged is the key to making sense of all the mass shootings in the United States (especially this one, i.e. a guy on the terror watch list who was able to buy an AR 15... that's just crazy).

How common are mass shootings or shootings in general? ...

Lets take a look the top 4 mass shootings in US history;

Orlando, Florida - Pulse nightclub - At least 49 dead
June 12, 2016: A gunman armed with an assault-type rifle and a handgun opened fire inside a crowded gay nightclub in Orlando in a rampage and hostage standoff that lasted three hours before he was killed in a gunfight with SWAT officers, police said. The gunman was identified as 29-year-old Omar Mateen. The attack is being investigated as a possible act of terrorism.
Blacksburg, Virginia - Virginia Tech - 32 dead
April 16, 2007: Seung-Hui Cho, 23, killed 32 people in two shooting scenes at a dorm and then in a classroom building on the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg, Virginia. He then killed himself.
Newtown, Connecticut - Sandy Hook Elementary School - 27 dead
Dec. 14, 2012: Adam Lanza, 20, opened fire at Sandy Hook Elementary School, killing 20 children and six staff members before killing himself. His mother, Nancy Lanza, was also found shot to death at their home.
Killeen, Texas - Luby's Cafeteria - 23 dead
Oct. 16, 1991: Twenty-three people were killed and 20 more wounded when George Hennard opened fire at Luby's Cafeteria. He then killed himself.

In other words, the Orlando shooting was the largest mass shooting in US history by 17 people. The next highest shooting was 32 people in Virginia Tech. The next after that was 27 in Newtown. If you add the top two "NON-Terrorist" mass shootings you get 50 people that died unrelated to Muslims. Add the next one and you are suddenly at 73 people dead, by what appear to be Christian Terrorists (of just crazy white people as GOP & Fox like to see it)

If you add up all the people from the deadliest mass shootings in US history you get 76 people killed by "Radical Islam" and 164 people killed by "white people gone crazy" and 58 people killed by Asians (that's 222 people killed in mass shootings by non-Muslims making Fox News's emphasis on "Radical Islam" as the main threat we face today, a distraction AT BEST). If we leave out mass shootings and JUST look at people "going crazy" with guns (either intentionally or by treating guns with the same safety consciousness of handle water guns), we get an idea of just how common shootings are in America (making 'America is a culture of mass shootings' the ONLY logical assertion to make);

(screenshot from here)

If we drop the definition of mass shooting as 4 people or more we get a picture of shootings in the UNited States that is so bad that the Senate Democrats NOT filibustering for so long till Fox News starts talking "radical Islam" means they just don't care about the people. (right now media is focusing on beating Trump so they are overlooking alot of the bad stuff about the Democrat Establishment and that is the sad story of America and how it went from 'beacon for Democracy' to 'hotbed of corruption and treason'). Here are some articles that bring even more perspective to this debate;

Other shootings for the few days around the Orlando shooting;

June 11 (Early morning on Saturday)
One dead, three injured, in Charlotte, North Carolina at an apartment complex.

June 11 (Early morning on Saturday)

Four injured in Webster, Minnesota at a house party.

June 11 (Saturday evening)

Three dead, two injured, in Panorama City, California in a murder-suicide.

June 11 (Saturday evening)

One dead, three injured in Stockton, California in a park.

June 11 (Late Saturday evening)

Five dead in Roswell, New Mexico. It was considered the second mass shooting of the weekend, the other of course being Orlando.

June 13 (Early Monday)

Five injured, plus one wounded dog in Fresno, California at a graduation party.

June 13 (Monday evening)

Five injured, all teenagers, in Brooklyn, New York at a playground. The shooting was over a designer backpack.

June 13 (Monday night)

Five injured in Chicago, Illinois, at a playground.

June 14 (Tuesday evening)

One dead, three injured in Oakland, California, at a memorial service.

June 14 (Tuesday night)

Four injured, all under the age of 17 in Wilmington, Delaware. The youngest, 12. The oldest, 16.

Not limiting the statistics to mass shootings, 125 people have died as a result of guns since Orlando, according to The Daily Beast.

In the week before Orlando, there were nine other mass shootings in June alone, according to Gun Violence Archive.

Just look at how MANY shootings have occurred JUST in 2016!

What we have to decide is if we are going to allow rules on guns so lax that people are dying EVERYDAY by shootings, in small and large numbers (with a tiny fraction attributable to "Radical Muslims" i.e. crazy people of a Muslim background), while the freedom for those guns serve no purpose. The people could never make the Government accountable with an AR 15 because it's stronger (an argument many people have made but they didn't realize that it's the bombs and jets that are the muskets of the past. But that's OK. Much of the gun debate is nonsensical.

------------------------------------------

To look at this from another angle;

PANEL - MASS SHOOTING IN ORLANDO, FL JUNE 13, 2016 - Mychal Denzel Smith, Mike Yard and Robin Thede debate whether a mass shooting at an LGBT club in Orlando, FL, should be blamed on terrorism, access to guns or homophobia. (7:08)

Here's the problem. Many people are NEVER gonna accept the responsibility for carrying guns. So arming everyone like in the days of the Founding Fathers or like modern days in places like Switzerland is not going to work (i.e the US no longer has a citizen militia though some States do have State militias). I'm not going to go as far as banning all guns because we DO have examples of Nations with many armed citizens NOT killing others and themselves so the problem is cultural and CAN be solved if we didn't have traitors and cowards in power (well, cowards to face the enemy if it's domestic and it happens to be the GOP and traitors by helping them by not exposing them... that said, you can't kill em all cause they can just be replaced with other ass kissers and you can never win on your own even if you know the Government is gonna pull another 9/11 to achieve some terrorist foreign policy goals... the only solution is to build a movement strong enough to ask the army to stand down from it's unconstitutional engagements in other countries and arrest our own war criminals who they obey without question... then America will return to citizen rule rather than rule by the elite robber barons we have now).

The other problem is what I said at the start. The assault rifle isn't the musket of the Founding Fathers. The Apache Helicopter and Fighter Jet or Tank IS the musket of the Founding Fathers. It doesn't matter how many bullets you shoot at a tank, you will lose.

This is a less extreme example but the principle will remain the same. No guy with an assault rifle is gonna stop the Government from doing what it wants and ONE man fighting the whole system with a machine gun/assault rifle is JUST a crazy guy who decided he/she wanted to kill people out of anger, frustration or both. Yes, the movie Commando was entertaining but that's not how it would work in real life unless you are the only person with a gun in your area.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To look at it from another perspective: If we were rebelling against the British Empire right now and EVERYONE was armed with an assault rifle or even a machine gun (outlawed since the 1980s) we would lose because England would just bomb us to hell from fighter jets like we did with Vietnam ... a war we only left because of negative public opinion and then we removed the draft and let people volunteer for the army so as not to get so much political backlash to unjust wars and it worked. Since then we have gone after Muslims, colored people of all kinds AND ourselves, proving once and for all that people who say 'first we they came for the Jews and then the came for the Mexicans and then they came for us and no one was there to help me cause no one was left' is just bullshit as we already went for everyone, INCLUDING OURSELVES and no one did nothing (and no one is still doing anything). Anyone who still uses that phrase is simply misinformed as to the current state of affairs.

In other words, assault rifles are useless to hunt and although it IS useful to kill people if you want to do that then there is something seriously wrong with you. A normal person would put together a political group or sue the concerned party or start up their own militia. To become a lone wolf assault rifle hoarder just doesn't make sense. That said some people are buying the guns because they could get banned (the way people don't give away their pennies when the treasury tries to recall them cause they might one day be valuable etc.). Simply banning AR 15's from sale will make it difficult for anyone to buy an assault rifle to kill people quickly as the case seems to be. A voluntary buy back program for assault rifles will take some of the market though I'm not sure if we can retrieve all assault rifles that are out there. More important than having assault rifles around in some bunker or gun collection is to make sure we just don't sell them anymore so on the spot - fast - killings, with an assault rifle, can end.

Interestingly enough he seems to have been a gay guy who decided to kill other gay guys and gals as a sort of repentance. I think by declaring 'allegiance to ISIS' he was trying to validate himself in his own eyes as a true STRAIGHT Muslim the way Michelle Bachman's husband tries to 'reform gay people to become starlight through the teachings of Christ' as repentance or just to help others who are gay and don't want to be because it's against thier religion. The key difference seems to be mental health. There are, afterall, tons of example of Right Wing Christians thinking gays getting killed was a good idea so I'm sure if we looked deep enough we would find gay white people killing other gays as repentance. Just not on the scale that this gay gay succeeded in in his Latino gay club in Orlando. (violence against LGBT is a normal US thing, btw. Even Mitt Romney did it.)

Self-hatred seen in some anti-gay hate crimes  Rachel Maddow looks at the role of self-hatred as a motivating factor in homophobia, even virulent, violent homophobia, and introduces Sohail Ahmed as a case where the dynamics of that self-hatred and Islamic extremism intersect.

Other factors involved in creating violent behavior tend to be wealth, access to opportunity, state of society, level of corruptness and equality of laws. But mental health seems to be the big one here and Fox News with it's perceptual lying for ratings (which they think is OK because they are number 1... i.e. lying creates good news and gets em alot of viewers looking for shocking and/or angry news. AND since they get good ratings Fox News believes they are right to lie. This is simply criminal behavior. There is just no other way to describe it).

Here is an overview of why a society (or segments of societies) breaks down and gets violent;

Breaking Down Society & Social Structures Leads To Anarchy AND Violence

In one image;

Here we see Fox News turn away from logic and a TON of evidence to put the blame entirely on "Radical Islam" (probably to hide thier crimes... this tactic only works because they have created a cult that believes thier lies are truth. A cult that would break apart hard if they ever found out and thus they double down on thier lies and treason);

I already made a list of shootings above making it clear that this IS a gun issue. What Fox News is doing I've outlined in the following posts;

Trevor Noah Notices Trump Thinks Muslims Have Hive Minds Like The Borg From Star Trek...Has Trump Been Hypnotized By Fox News?

Larry Wilmore Skewers The GOP & Fox News Over Their Use Of The Label "Radical Islam" Using Obama's Words

I Quickly Slam Hannity On His Hypocrisy & Promotion Of Terrorism Through Petulant Labeling Designed To Create Conflict Not Resolve Them (i.e. "Radical Islam" As Opposed To "Terrorist" OR "Madman" Or "Mass Shooter")

McCaul, Of The House Homeland Security Committee, Provides The Perfect Example Of What's Wrong With GOP Logic On Muslim Terrorists As Opposed To Christian Terrorists (What They Have Is Like A Sort Of Pro-Christian Schizophrenia)

Strong Evidence That The GOP Is Using The CIA's Plan To Destabilize Iran As A Model For Their Own Political Strategies for America

The focus for Fox News is terrorism and not the problem itself (like what they did with the DOJ report on Ferguson to fit thier age old party agenda);

Here you see Fox News and it's moronic(or just treasonous or joker style) contributors have decided to change to focus from the social problem of stopping mass shootings (& shootings in general) to 'we must wage a war of obliteration' which is clearly where their rhetoric is going. Of course, this is in line with thier general behavior of being American's party of war & treason;

GOP - The War Party - Illustrated

This decoy continues unabated on Fox News while the rest of the media stays silent (i.e. except for the occasional mention by Chris Hayes or Rachel Maddow the media stays silent ... probably because Fox & The GOP bully them and it works, thus the liberal media puts the whole country at risk by helping the GOP cover up it's lies by not exposing them EVERYDAY);

Frankly 'the wrong argument' is anything that takes a person away from doing nothing to stop terrorist buying guns but sending our soldiers to die fighting ALL "Radical Muslims" all over the world. Thier goal is war and not dealing with the real problem because they are a part of the problem.

Treasonous Activities

Here is an interesting decoy by a Koch Brother stooge which means that the Koch Brothers don't just want to drown the Constitution in a bathtub they are also actively engaged in spreading death In America. I think people are seriously underestimating what sort of threat the Koch Brothers pose to all Americans and American society itself;

Here Trevor Noah destroy the Koch Brother stooge, Alan West, by pointing out the obvious thing left out in the Koch Brother talking points, i.e. that we DID do something to try and stop box cutters from getting on planes AND we took other measures to keep planes from being so easily hijacked i.e. when faced with a problem we solved it rather than the Koch Brothers solution of obscuring the truth of the facts with platitudes and smokescreens;

Here is the part where the Koch Brothers should have no power despite their billions of dollars to spend on Fox News and wring thier talking points, i.e TERRORIST THEMSELVES SAY IT"S EASY TO GET GUNS IN THE STATES AND THAT THEY SHOULD USE THIS TO THEIR ADVANTAGE. It doesn't get any simpler than this;

Now Trevor Noah mentions the other shootings in the news around the same time and I provide a larger list below to emphasize the point;

We clearly had a white shooter/mass-murderer who got caught at the same time. I think people may be right that the negative attitude towards gays on the right probably influenced Omar Mateen. Christianity and Islam are certainly similar on gay people... only the Constitution separates them and the Constitution was written by people who didn't seem particularly keen on God. That's why the whole 'America is a Christian nation' thinking didn't even start will the cold war when the Russians were the "atheists" and American politicians of the time contrasted themselves from that by calling themselves Christians while hiding the fact they knew about the Pearl Harbor bombing and made all thier crimes classified so they could continue thier rule. We have the same situation today.

Turns out there was another would be murderer around so EVEN ON THAT DAY there are examples that this is not about "terrorism" or "radical Islam" but a societal breakdown which the GOP are heavily engaged in with it's perpetual lying;

When Toddlers are up to 23 people killed and it's not even summer yet then we know that America has a gun safety issue. SInce the NRA claims to teach gun safety either Americanism are idiots or NRA are traitors who are purposely no doingthier statted jobs.

America did ban machine guns and it's not a problem today. If it banned AR 15s there would be an outcry and then it would be forgotten. Like the Iraq War or 9/11. Though to be fair, the media and politicans are probably the ony ones to blame for that.

Well, as long as the source of the problem, i.e. tactics to break down and destabilize society, remains intact these problems will continue. Banning AR 15's won't stop mass shootings. It will just make it harder to kill so many people so fast. Banning criminal behavior like killing 4000+ soldiers and 1.2 million Iraqis for oil will help stop this behavior. Banning Fox News with it's lies for ratings behavior will reduce these speeches. Having the GOP answer for it's crimes from Iraq to it's destabilization antics to 9/11 will finally put a stop to this behavior as people demand more transparency. Liberal pipe dream arguments just give fuel to the GOP & Fox News to deceive people more.

Here is the list of mass shootings and regular shootings with some totals to keep in mind (repeated from above);

Clearly America has a culture of shootings so obviously mass shooting will be common no matter how much Fox News & the GOP try and deflect attention from their activities with thier latest scapegoat.
